The hotline is the gateway to all of our services. Call and speak up for yourself, or for someone who can't. You don't have to give your name, and we won't tell you what to do. We will help you maximize your safety, explore your options, advise you of your legal rights, and help you make the best decision for yourself. Please call us. You are not alone.

Calling is free and confidential, and our advocates answer in English and Spanish. If it isn't safe to talk, you can also chat with an advocate online.

A safe haven is the number one defense against domestic violence. Our emergency shelter, at a confidential location, is open to all regardless of gender, race, creed, color, ethnicity, disability, immigration status, socio-economic status, or sexual orientation. Residents find safety and peace of mind, heal physically and emotionally, engage in counseling, and plan for a future without abuse.

Shelter residents also have access to:

• Safety planning and crisis intervention
• Counseling and support groups for adults and children
• Court and appointment accompaniment
• Recreation and self-care programming
• Advocacy services and pet boarding

For those at the highest risk of danger, our High Risk Program works with police departments, hospitals, and courts across Northern Westchester to provide immediate safety planning and access to services. We also partner with Catholic Charities to shelter and support survivors of human trafficking.

Individual counseling gives survivors a safe, confidential place to break the silence about abuse and begin to heal. Support groups connect survivors with others in similar situations; we currently offer groups for men, women, children, and Spanish speakers. To get started, call 1-888-438-8700.

Our counselors help you understand the danger you may face, develop plans to maximize your safety, and build self-advocacy skills, including recognizing the difference between a relationship dominated by power and control and one based on equality, respect, and trust. Counselors can also connect you to other Hope's Door services, such as the Legal Center and our Next Step economic empowerment program, which helps clients meet educational and vocational goals on the path to self-sufficiency.

Abuse often presents greater challenges for multicultural and immigrant victims. We offer culturally appropriate services regardless of immigration status, with bilingual counselors fluent in Spanish, Urdu, Punjabi, and Hindi.

Children & Youth Programs

Our trained counselors work with children to break the cycle of violence, learn safety strategies, and heal from the trauma of abuse. Using role playing, creative arts, and play, we encourage children to express themselves in non-violent ways at home and in school, and in some cases help them overcome delays in social, physical, or cognitive skills resulting from abuse. Our ultimate goal is to break the intergenerational cycle of abuse.

The children's program includes safety planning, individual counseling, support groups, parent support and empowerment, recreational activities, and educational skills building.

For teens, our award-winning Love Shouldn't Hurt program brings dating abuse awareness, intervention, and prevention to schools across Westchester, empowering youth to recognize relationships based on power and control and to help themselves and their peers.

The Hope's Door Legal Center provides trauma-informed, high-quality legal services that help survivors escape their abuser, establish their rights, and take back control of their lives. By appointment, our attorneys provide information, advice, counsel, support, and representation in:

• Family law and matrimonial actions
• Orders of protection
• Custody, visitation, and child support
• Immigration matters

Hope's Door also staffs a full-time advocate at the Westchester County Family Justice Center in White Plains, assisting victims seeking orders of protection and related remedies at Family Court, along with safety planning, counseling, court accompaniment, and referrals.

Too often, signs of abuse are overlooked because of a lack of education, awareness, and safe spaces for disclosure. Through community education and outreach, Hope's Door provides educational training, workshops, and information for local communities. Our goal is to raise the awareness of domestic violence and equip community members and professionals with the appropriate tools for intervention.

We are also available to attend community events and meetings, and further share information. If your school, workplace, congregation, or community group would like to learn how to recognize abuse and respond safely, we will come to you.
