I came to Hope's Door as a domestic violence high risk referral after surviving a serious incident in which my partner punched and strangled me. He controlled every part of my life and my children's lives. I am grateful to be supported at my own pace as I work toward safety, stability, and a healthier future for my family.

When I first arrived at the shelter, I was very reserved and mostly kept to myself. Hope's Door even covered my CNA program, something I'm truly passionate about. I'm grateful for the encouragement that helped me grow more confident and hopeful about my future.

I endured so much from my abusive ex-partner and then he threatened to put a gun to my head. With the help of the local sheriff, I grabbed my two-year old daughter and fled over 500 miles to my family in Westchester. My Hope's Door attorney found shelter for me and my child, represented me in court, and secured a dismissal of my abuser's case. I am now safe and reclaiming my autonomy.

My two children and I had been living with my partner for almost a year when my daughter finally revealed that my boyfriend had been molesting her. We left that day. I had no job, no legal status, and nowhere to go until I found shelter for us at Hope's Door. Since then, Hope's Door helped me obtain my work permit and temporary housing. We are looking ahead to the future.
